Wake Up To The Hazards Of Global Warming
Global warming should not be taken as scientific mumbo jumbo; it is a crisis, today, that threatens every living organism whether human or non-human. Nobody can escape the hazards caused by global warming. It’s time that you stop ignoring global warming as a scientific issue and start seeing it as humanitarian issue.
The Hazards Already Present
Between 1990 and 2100 the surface temperature is set to rise from 2.0 - 5.8 A°C or from 2.5 -10.5 A°F. Already it has risen by A±0.2 A°Celsius or 0.4 A°Fahrenheit in the lowermost layers of earth’s atmosphere since 1900 i.e. since the start of Industrial Age. For the next fifty years we have burned fossil fuels as if there is no tomorrow. Plus we chopped down entire forests without thinking of the consequence. As a result, now sea levels are rising by half inch every year and threatening low lying areas. Super cyclones and tornadoes are besieging nation after nation whereas others are hungering for drops of water. Malaria, dengue and other epidemics are on the rise especially in Eastern Asia. Once mighty rivers are now getting drier during summers; and flooding their basins during the rainy season. All these climatic changes are thought to be the result of global warming.
The Future Hazards
All the future predictions, if they come true, will create a hellish world for our children and their children. At one hand there will be food shortage, as rivers nurturing fertile lands will dry up turning once green lands into deserts. Snows will vanish from mountain tops even in cold regions leading to landslides. Many people will become refugees, as seas will engulf lands. Even big cities near seas will not be spared; may be the future generation will only know them as legendary cities. Species and habitats will be destroyed. All these are predicted till 2100, we do not know what will happen after that.
Is This How The World Ends?
No, if you and me and others wake up today and start doing our part to clean up the environment, we can make a difference. Certain tribes in North America think about the effect till seven generations before doing any thing drastic; let that be our thought too. If not for seven generations, we might think about the hazards global warming can throw up for our next two generations at least. So reduce your dependency on fossil fuels, reduce cutting down of trees, stop creating excessive garbage by recycling and reusing whatever you can and lastly stop being a mute spectator to the wrong doings and wrong decisions of those in power. Be vocal with your support for environmental issues. Only then can we stop the hazards caused by global warming.
